One of the reasons why we start looking at alternatives to what we eat is because we are unhappy with our weight. There are so many businesses out there trying to help you lose weight and promising you the key to success, but you have to be very careful because most times you end up with the yo-yo effect. You lose weight, you feel great, then you go back to your usual routine and gain the weight back. What happens when you make changes and stick to those changes and lose a few pounds but all of the sudden the weight comes back, why? So many things affect your body weight, this is why it is important to focus more on becoming health conscious than just the extra pounds in your body.
Today I want to share with you 4 tools to become more health conscious that I know ultimately will help you reach that ideal weight you have been looking for.
#1. Documentaries – these usually help inspire you to take action on your goal of losing weight and becoming healthier. There are very popular documentaries out there, like super size me, or forks over knives. They both focus on diet and show you how by being more aware of what you eat can help you not only lose weight but also feel much better overall. Here is a list of my favorite food documentaries that will, in turn, inspire you to become healthier:
Super Size Me
#2. Books – they can either help or wreck havoc in your brain. I would recommend staying away from the latest fad diets books. Pick up books that discuss health benefits of foods, or come from a reputable source, meaning written by registered dieticians or doctors that you know have dedicated their lives to researching the effects of food in the human body. Here are some of my favorite titles:
#3. Nutrition Classes – there are a lot of ways to take nutrition classes. Nowadays with the help of the internet, we can take online nutrition classes that will help us understand better the impact of what we eat and how our body reacts to foods. The best part is that most of these classes are absolutely free. Check out coursera.org for a list of free nutrition classes. Also look at the continuing education programs in your local area to see if they are offering nutrition classes. I’ve come across great information after attending to some local nutrition classes.
#4. Food Blogs – there are so many food blogs out there, but I have 3 favorite ones because they focus on things I believe in, which is to eat foods that nurture your body and help you be healthier. The list includes:
I hope this list motivates you to watch some documentaries, read at your own pace, look for nutrition classes and add a few new recipes from some of my favorite food blogs. If you have other recommendations leave them in the comments section. I would love to hear from you.
